"Did this just happen?"

These four words were uttered out of the mouth of a young girl right after she did a u-turn right in front of an oncoming car, causing the car to swerve into a snow bank in order to prevent a collision.

Yes, this happened to us yesterday. We decided to go to the local "bed-side Baptists" church and then head out for breakfast. On our way to breakfast, we turned down a side street and see a car turn onto the street heading towards us. Then it appeared that she was turning right (left for us) onto another side street, but in all actuality, she was using this space so that she could turn around and park. Dave slammed on the breaks, directed the car to the right (if he would have gone left we would have hit her), smashed into a snowbank and then honked his horn. After about 30 seconds, she got out of the car, and asked us "Did this just happen?". She had no idea!

Dave told her what happened, and she just looked clueless. She called her grandparents (the house she was parking at) and they came outside - very nice people! After exchanging phone numbers and getting her insurance information, we had to push the car out of the snowbank. We first had to dig the car out. What a challenge!

We're all OK (my back is sore today from pushing the car!) and the only damage is to the bumper and a fog lamp. Wow we were lucky! But maybe we should have skipped the bed-side church! :)
